Accessory Smart Cord
PS3 and Blu ray, smart buy?
I want to buy a blu ray player and I hear that the PS3 has the best pictures, considering i also enjoy gaming i figured i would go with it, is that true? If i do get the PS3 and i plan on gaming, but no hardcore gaming, do i really need the 80 gb or would the 40 be ok? Also, what other accessories would i need to buy? does it come with a remote? if i get a universal remote would that cover it? Does it come with an HDMI cable? Would i need a special one because its a gaming system as well and not a normal blu ray player? does it come with component cords?
I got the 40GB about a year ago and sometimes I wish I had gotten the larger hard drive... and I didn't purchase it for gaming at all - only blu-ray playback. But, the PS3 hard drive is very easy to replace and upgrade on your own, and possibly cheaper. I have an 80GB SATA that came out of a crashed HP laptop that I acquired at no charge. I've put it into an IBM Travelstar enclosure and am using it as an external USB backup drive, but I could just as easily have popped it into my PS3 as an upgrade.
As for the accessories you need, that depends on what you plan to do with it. I find I get along just fine with the dualshock controller supplied with the system. I may get a blu-ray remote eventually, but I have yet to find any absolute need for one. Unless there is a special package or bundle available, I doubt any will come with the remote, but they do come with the controller.
No, a universal remote will not work because they work off of infrared (IR) signal and the PS3 uses bluetooth. But, you can get USB adapters that will allow an universal IR remote to work with it. Considering the cost of an IR usb adapter and a universal remote with decent functionality, you're better off just getting the right remote.
Again, unless there is a special package or bundle, most likely it will not come with an HDMI cable. I have never even opened the cables that came with mine and used an HDMI cable that I purchased separately from the get-go. If I recall correctly, the cables were composite, but they may have been component... I just can't remember truthfully.
A "special" HDMI cable is not required, but you should know that not all HDMI cables are created equally. Although your system will work with a $3 HDMI cable (they do exist), your best bet is to get a category2 cable with a 22-24 wire guage (better protection of the internal wiring means less interference and longer lifespan) Most of the cables that say 1.3 or 1.3a (the latest non-beta specifications) meet these requirements.

What does a modem look like?
Hey, I am going to get an Xbox 360 Pro in a couple of days and people tell me to plug the end of the Ethernet cord into the modem..... well im not really computer ACCESSORY smart so im not sure what that is. I do have high speed and.... beside my computer, when we got high speed, it came with two things.... one is like a box and the other is tall and skinny. Are one of those Modems? And do you know where you could buy a Ethernet cord thats about 40 feet long? Like at a Walmart or something....

The tall one is probably your modem. If you are not sure, it is probably the 1 with your internet service provider's logo on it (i.e. Qwest, cable1). You can get an ethernet cord at any best buy, and i imagine a wal mart supercenter would have it also.
