1999 BMW E36 M3 fault code P0125 ?
I have a 1999 E36 M3 . every time the weather gets cold check engine light comes one . I toke it to the shop they checked it with auto scanner .
Said fault code P0125
Definition:
Coolant temp is always low
Explanation:
The power train control module verifies that the engine is at a proper operating temperature.
Probable cause:
1- check coolant level
2- thermostat defective
3- ECT engine coolant temperature sensor defective.
Coolant level is good , so they told me I need to change thermostat and ECT sensor ..
PLEASE help me to solve this problem ?????? THANK U
Change your Thermostat, while you're there change the water pump and make sure you install a new aluminum thermostat housing.
Your cooling system is starting to fail and you'll be thankful to change those 3 parts.
Not doing this preventative maintenance will save you a new headgasket, radiator and cooling system!

DIY: How to scan your BMW
BMW 328ci cuts out when hot?
1999 BMW E46 328Ci.
Cars starts. Mirefires slightly on start up, takes a few goes to start.
Drive it, revs ok, once the temp gauge hits middle and the temp registers circa 96 degrees celcius, The car suddenly misfires and dies. about 20 minutes or so of running.
Very hard to restart, just cuts out as soon as it catches, then dies.
impossible to restart, have to wait a few hours to cool down before It will catch, but very hard to do do
replaced the thermostat/coolant sensor unit. as that was out of range.
MAF OK
Throttle Position Sensor OK
No vacum leaks
On the OBD scanner, O2 sensors read voltages between .01 to .07 (which im assuming is normal
All 4 have voltage output.
fan works.
But when the magic temp is hit or thereabouts, all the O2 sensors stop reading any voltage.
HELP!!!!!
Whats happening. Is there a short circuit
Have all my O2 sensors gone mad/disfunctional
or it it the ECU at fault or perhaps a relay in between?
I had a car once that did the same thing. When it got hot, 20-30 min, It stopped running. It turned out to be the coil. When they go bad and get hot, the magnetic field breaks down causing your car to misfire and quit. Once it cools down, it will start again with much difficulty, but just quit again when it warms up. Oh, if your Beamer is diesel......never mind.
