Browning Hi Power Pistol Disassembly
Which is a better 9mm service pistol?
A Browning High Power or CZ75? Reliability? accuracy? aftermarket?
The CZ is slightly larger. Subjectively, it doesn’t feel as polished as the Browning (now FN, right?). The Browning has a magazine disconnect (so that you can’t fire without a magazine in place). Some drills I’ve been through require the shooter to keep a round in the gun during magazine change (by changing a not yet depleted magazine). The CZ could fire if necessary during the change and this may be an advantage over the Hi-Power. Both have good combat accuracy. The Browning and the CZ feel like a 1911 cant (grip geometry). I’m 6’3” and the CZ fits my hand better but doesn’t feel “blocky” at all. Both have good standard sights. The CZ can be had in all metal and also has plastic variants, single or double action. It can also come in a greater magazine capacity than the Browning. The Browning has a smaller beavertail than the CZ and can “bite” a shooter more easily than the CZ (not a big gig, though). Both new guns are cast frames.
I shoot a 75B frequently and still I like the Phantom variation on the CZ (which seems more accurate to me) as well. The Browning was my first 9mm. I won’t argue with the person who chooses it because it’s classic. It is. All of this brings me to something near a toss-up. It’s the price that breaks it for me. I’ll go CZ by just a hair.
