Relative pathname in VBA?
In Excel 2007, I would like to open a text file called halleluia.txt which is in the same folder as my .xlsm file. However
Set a = fs.OpenTextFile("halleluia.txt", ForReading, False)
throws a runtime error 53
while
Set b = fs.OpenTextFile("C:Documents and SettingsVincentBureau 8 - 1111 - test excelhalleluia.txt", ForAppending, False)
Works. I need to use relative path in order to have my workbook to work without rewriting the path if I move the file.
You can use the app.path statement
MyPath = app.path & "/halleluia.txt"
I don't have access to VBA right now but try something like...
Set b = fs.OpenTextFile(MyPath, ForAppending, False)

Printed Folders - Presenting Your Company
Folder is a light carton file holder made of hard paper 350 gr. Its standard measures are designed to contain a few A4 regular printer sized pages. The usage of Folders is extending and become more and more popular because of the following reasons:
- We use Folders to keep a small number of documents, sometimes only one, attending a specific subject. Unlike the "Binder" which stores many pages containing different subjects. Holding a few single-subject-papers is the shortcoming of the Folder but altogether its great advantage. Ask any administrator, bureau manager or a secretary, they'll tell you that they prefer handling small numbers of documents in many Folders then a lot of documents in a few big, heavy, fat and ugly binders where looking for a specific paper is a drag.
- Lawyers, accountants, engineers, doctors, high ranked officers, managers, prefer moving around with those easy to be reached Folders than them cumbersome clipper binders. As a matter of fact, that's how the Folder was born: the demand for a light files holder, easy to be carried around simply handling, and still keeping papers safe, clean and decent to be given away.
- The vision of the "paperless office" is gone by now. All the electromagnetic and electro optic storing and retrieving media are very helpful but people still need the hard copy as a backup. Paper documents are required and they remain the backbone of our bureaucratic world. Papers have to be filed, stored and ready to be retrieved at demand. What a Folder is made of and what is its manufacturing process?
- It's made of 350 gr thick paper, which is close to be considered as a light carton. It makes the Folder stiff and inflexible and yet light and easy to be carried around.
- The Folder is actually a twin light carton pages, folded in the middle, sized to be a little bit longer and wider then the papers it contains.
- In the inside: at list one of the Folder's sides is designed to have pockets. The pockets hold the contents of the Folder. Pockets can be made on both sides of the Folder.
- The inside pockets rims can be slotted in order to hold a business card, a slim calculator or a very small note book between the slots.
- The middle fold is made in such a way that it creates a small binding, like in a book but much smaller. It enables filling the Folder up with 10-15 pages of paper without wrinkling the papers and crumpling the Folder.
- Before cutting and folding - the Folder's carton is laminated in order to protect the Folder from moist, oily finger tips, spilled coffee (as it happens a lot during business meetings) and generally speaking it makes the Folder more durable.
Designing the Folder's outsides is a very important factor of the overall product's quality. Its look, its appearance, is as important as its efficiency. Public and private organizations, commercial companies, government and municipal institutions, schools and colleges, military and police units, offices of professionals (lawyers, insurance or traveling agencies, brokers, private clinics, and such) they all want their Folders to express their spirit and represent their utterance:
- The background color, the dominating color of the front cover: like the red of Liverpool or the blue and yellow of Ikea, the green of Greenpeace, and such.
- Then the "Logo" is coming. It must be there.
- The company name, the organization slogan, the institution saying.
- A picture of the factory building, a nice overall view of the hotel, any digital image is possible and welcome.
- Changing data, like: managers names, department names, the various subjects of the Folders content, and so on.
Folders are moving around and change hands in business meetings, professional seminars, commercial conventions, and in such a way they become the firm delegate and representative. It becomes an advertising mean and a promoting tool. Look at them as big business cards or a sophisticated flyer.
