What damage could be cause if you push a Auto car in other transmission than "N"?
so i was wondering what damaged could it cause to the car, if you push a auto car in 'R' or "D".
Short distances usually wont hurt the transmission, it just makes it harder to push because some of the gears will be still trying to turn. Long distances can be a problem even in N because the transmission is lubricated by a pump on the engine side. If the engine is not turning the pump is not running so you dont get any lube. Thats why in the old RWD days they used to remove the drive shaft when they towed a car very far. Not a problem with FWD cars because the tow truck lifts the front wheels off the ground.
