Car Radar Would a stealth paint job on my car work against radar?
I wanna paint my car like a Stealth Bomber. Basically flat black paint,no "chrome" or emblems,blacked out head and taillights. So wouldn't that increase my chances against "them boys in blue"? I've heard it works.
Nope, paint alone doesn't work.
90% of Stealth against radar is in the shape. A radar-absorbing coating accounts only for about 5% of the decrease in signal return.
You need to make the carbody out of flat plates and arrange them in such a way as to scatter radar waves. There is a computer program out there called ECHO 1 that can calculate the radar return of a faceted shape (that's the software used by Lockheed to design the F117A Stealth Fighter's faceted shape), but there is probably no way you can get your hands on it.
After you make a carbody with the right faceted shape, you also need to put zigzag edges on any door seams so they don't generate a radar return, and put a radar-reflective coating on all of the window glass so radars won't get a return off the inside of the car.
It can be done and it's totally legal, but the cost will probably be about the same amount as a few thousand speeding tickets.
