"Secret trials have been unveiled to introduce more traffic monitoring cameras on UK roads. Using Number Plate ID, they will track and time all road users - and issue a fine automatically if the average speed is over the mark."
We already have "Blue Police Cameras" as a national network with Number Plate ID, and the system is not even 100% operational - why do we need more ?
The Report is rather missleading - as it shows a picture of a motion sensor on a traffic light - quite different to the actual monitoring camera network.
Is this just a smokescreen to test public outrage before 'going live' with the real thing ?

How can truvelo speed cameras tell who's speeding when enforcing multi-lanes if they only take one picture?
I'm told they use built in sensors in the road to set off the camera if it detects someone speeding/over the limit but how can they tell if it's multi lane and if two cars were passing the camera at the same time but only one of them were speeding/over the limit
cause gatso's normally take two pictures and use the pictures as secondary check along with the road markings to make sure the camera is accurate and to tell between multi lane if one person's speeding but the other isn't
Truvelo does use in road sensors.
It measures the time it take for you to cross both sensors in the road. If it's too quick, flash bang what a picture, you're nicked!
If the road has more than one lane, there are sensors in both lanes and the camera automatically records which lane was speeding. So, it may take one picture of two cars but it imprints it on the picture which car was speeding.
