Circuit Tester
Does anyone know where you can buy a mini tester electrical circuit? The ones you used to make at school?
As in the ones used in science with the mini light bulbs which lit up when you completed a circuit??
FYI it is NOT a 'continuity tester'... it is one of those things you made at school, that lit up light bulbs when you made a curcuit!! It's educational... not for actual use in the house!
you may buy it at the electrical store. it is called VOM multimeter, VOM as voltmeter ohmeter and milli ameter.

Electrical Circuit Testers
Why wont my outlet tester trip my GFCI on a downstream protected 2 wire circuit.?
I have an old house with 2 wire circuits and was told that by placing a GFCI at the beginning of each circuit i could protect the normal outlets downstream. When I place my outlet tester in the GFCI and push the tester trip button it works as normal, but when I try to trip the GFCI with the tester in a downstream outlet it does not work. Should it or not?
Like the other guys said, you're tester will only trip the gfi if it has an equipment ground. The only way to test a gfi is to use the test button on the gfi, if it trips and resets then you are good. Even though you're question was answered by teh first guy, I figured a 3rd response couldn't hurt.
