Getting the right radar detector?
So i got my first speeding ticket a few days ago, 50 Mph in a 30 zone!
I am looking to purchase a radar detector, but i have no clue what i should buy.
My friend is offering me his Cobra radar detector, and he has no clue what model it is, for 100 dollars.
I would really like to not spend a lot of money.
I found online a Cobra ESD 7100 for around 40 bucks, and a Cobra ESD 7000 for around 30. I told my friend about these that i saw online, and he said they are not that great.. but he may be telling me this because he wants me to buy his!
What is the difference between these cheaper models and the 150 dollar models? I dont want to spend alot of money, but i cannot get another speeding ticket.

The newer, instant pulse radar will detect your speed and your radar detector will alert you to the fact that the cop has already registered it on your ticket that he's writing out as you approach.
Kind of like a low fuel warning light that comes on when your tank is completely empty.

Radar detectors help avoid tickets by detecting a police radar speed gun. However, radar detectors only reduce your probability of receiving a speeding ticket. If you plan to use your radar detector to reduce the chance of a speeding ticket on the highway, you should understand the environment in which radar guns and radar detectors operate. Hills, trees, low vehicle profiles and traffic are your best friends.
Today, the main source of traffic revenue is moving toward automated red light cameras (rather than police radar guns). If you want to avoid red light camera tickets, consider adding a free red light camera database to your gps.
