Compass Suction
Why won't a compass work very well in a car?
I bought a compass (N, S, E, W) with suction cup for cars-- it is a regular magnetic compass with a ball floating in the water. When it is out of the car it is 100% accurate.
But inside cars (tested in two different cars) the compass is inaccurate to +/- 45°
i guess there's some sort of electromagnetic interference inside a car, but what is it? and why won't it affect the compass in a *predictable* manner?

The iron and steel in the car are ferromagnetic and will attract the magnet and distort the apparent direction depending on the orientation of the structure of the car. It is possible, however, with car compasses to position the compass and compensate for the ferromagnetic structure around it.

How do you make a suction cup stick to the windshield of a car for attaching a compass?
you cant but some marine dealers sell them for use in a boat that is the same principal or use a sat nav suction cup and glue on your suction cup but the marine chandeler will be your best bet
