Connection Speed Detector
Wifi Car Routers (Trapster)?
Basically Im trying to look for a decent router to connect to the internet at all times while my car is in motion. Main reason I want this is so my Trapster App for the Itouch will work. Trapster detects speed traps and such and has many more features then a standard radar detector.
I dont care how good the car router is as long as it is good enough to maintain trapsters internet connection and is affordable.
I need some models, Ive been browsing but havent found much =/
We have some "power users" with this type of setup, but very few. One user in particular uses an in-car WiFi gateway with 3G "aircard" type connections from each of ATT, Verizon, Sprint, to assure coverage everywhere (there are 3 slots for these in the gateway). I'm not sure the router is specifically designed for the car, he may have a 110V power converter. It's sitting on the back deck near the rear window. He uses Trapster, but also other WiFi devices in his car. You can get a WiFi - 3G gateway at any electronics store, we got one at Best Buy, and you can also order of course on-line. Again not sure about a 12v one.
One note: your iPod touch does not have actual GPS. It uses WiFi positioning, which is pretty good in most populated areas (in town, residential, etc.) but will not work out on the open road. It also can use cell tower positioning, but the accuracy is very rough so the results won't be great. This will of course impact the Maps app, any nav app, and Trapster equally.
We leave the app downloadable for iPod Touch owners, because many have requested it, but it clearly works much better with an iPhone (or the new 3G iPad!).
