Control Home
My 8 yrs old son is out of control @ home and out in public but at school is well behaved.What can I do?
My boyfriend,family and friends don't want to be around him. He don't listen and acts out, sometimes violently. He lacks common scense, respect and can't follow simple rules like No playing on stairs. I've done everything I can think of and nothing seems to work. His father has been out of our lives for 6.5 yrs with little if any contact for months on end.
Don't let him use 'lack of father' as an excuse for his behavior.
At eight, he needs to start taking responsbility for his own actions & words -and- should already be aware of how his actions & words affect others and affect how others choose to interact with him. If he doesn't know this already, you need to start teaching him this.
Ask him what he would like best from people in his life. Ask him what people want from him. Teach him to think, logically, about positive steps & choices he can make that will lead to his needs being met while others needs are being met, too.
If he's still acting like an infant, with regards to making good choices, then there's some lesson that he missed at that stage that you've got to go back & teach him again & again, until he gets it. Not punitively - don't say 'now I have to treat you like a baby, I guess', instead say "You haven't learned this, yet, so we've got to teach it to you now"
He's apparently got some self-control & some sense of respect for others & for rules, if he can manage himself at school. Find out what the school's doing differently from you & try doing things their way.

How do I get my computer to control my home phone?
I want to link my land line to my computer, so that I can use the computer to dial numbers,record telephone conversations onto the computer. Does anyone know what software or way to do this?

Yes, you can do this. the first thing you need is a voice modem. These are basic modems that you can buy for your computer that have voice support. Your home telephone line will plug into the modem, then your modem will go to the terminal outside, so all phones go through the computer.
In this configuration, even if the computer is turned off the phone should still work.
First, are the laws in your location. Do they allow you to do this and what conditions are tied to it? I live in Ohio and it is legal as defined in ORC 2933.52 (B)(4) but it does have a stipulation that the recording can only be done by one of the people for whom the communication was intended. In other words, if someone were to call one of my family members, the call was not intended for ME and so I could not record it.
At this point you need some some software which does logging, and there are a lot of them out there. Some will record calls only if you initiate it, some will do it automatically but will also play a beep in the background so the caller knows you are recording it, some will pull the caller ID also, some will let you play specific recordings depending on the number it originates from, or will even drop calls if conditions are met, etc etc. There are lots of options and you need to look at them carefully.
