what reels are similar to the penn 525 mag?
i love my penn 525 mag because it has magnetic cast control and because it has no lever wind. I don't care about the brand. i just want something really close to the penn 525 mag.
Daiwa Sealine SL-H series reels.
They don't have the magnetic cast control but their brakes are pretty nice. They are very easy to cast and their casting distances are also very impressive. Other than the magnetic cast control, Daiwa Sealine SL-H series are very similar to 525 Mag in terms of function and they contained less parts. I think you will like the price too. Daiwa SL20SH and Daiwa SL30SH are both lighter than Penn 525 Mag. SL20SH is very similar to Penn 525 Mag in terms of spool capacity. SL30SH is bigger and it weight about the same as newer Penn 525 Mags. Despite its slightly bigger size, casting is still very easy. SL20SH, SL30SH and Penn 525 Mag got very similar max drag tension and parts are easily obtainable.
Newell 235-5
Newell 235-5 is similar in size and could probably cast a little longer. BUT, it will NOT cast as easily as Penn 525 Mag and Daiwa SL-H's. You can fly line live baits further with Newell 235-5 but casting heavier rigs/lures will be considerably more difficult; a LOT more thumb work is required. Also, the use of Newell reels is not recommended for surf fishing because they don't handle sand very well.
Personally, I prefer Daiwa SL-H series over Penn 525 Mag because they are lighter in weight and contained less parts. If you got a very well trained thumb and don't fish in the surf, I think you will like Newell reels because they are very light in weight.
PS: Newer Newell reels' quality controls are not as tight as older, "vintage" Newells. Used reels might be better than new ones in this particular case.

Is there a way to modify or reprogram the PCM to accept the magnetic vehicle speed Sensor?
I have put a 1996 Ford 460 motor & E4OD transmission with a 60 pin PCM in my motor home. Because of a space limitation I had to remove the tail shaft and bolt the transmission directly to the differential. This caused the loss of the Ford 20 tooth (VSS p/n E9LF-9E731-AA) and a Datcon magnetic (VSS p/n 71256-00) was installed in the differential..
There is a harsh shifting between first and second gear and the transmission control indicator lamp flashes. Is there a way to modify or reprogram the PCM to accept the magnetic vehicle speed sensor?
Can you do it, No. Can it be done possable but you will have to take it to the dealer. You don,t have the tools to change the pcm.
