CRKT My Tighe?
This Looks like a Decent Knife, Is it Any Good?
It should be a good knife
I really like CRKT but prefer the M16 with AUS-8 blade
The My Tighe has the 420J2 blade but just about everyone is using that steel now and I've heard it is pretty good with right heat treatment
CRKT will do the heat treatment right and you should be happy with any of their knives

| | Crkt 3015C Kommer Fillet 5 in. Clampack $24.35 We understand about fillet knives. Things happen. Sometimes you re on a tight budget. Sometimes they get dropped and lost. Sometimes you forget to wash and wipe them down after saltwater use with really ugly results. Sometimes they end up in the bottom of the boat or in someone else s tackle box. They live a hard life.So many fishermen are reluctant to invest in a fine folding fillet knife like our Kommer Surf N Turfreg; or our premium Kommer Big Eddytrade; Fillet Knives. Recognizing these realities we asked fishing guide and knifemaker Russ Kommer to come up with a line of affordable fillet knives that we could take pride in and put the CRKT brand on.Here they are in three sizes. Each one has a flexible 5Cr15MoV stainless steel blade with an extended tang that reaches nearly to the butt of the grip. For improved performance we handgrind scallops into the blades to create air pockets so the fillets won t stick to the blades as you cutmdash;a feature normally found only on much more expensive slicing knives. The handles are molded TPR with a fishnet texture and a lanyard hole. Each size comes with an injection molded polypropylene sheath fitted to grip the knife securely with belt loops and plenty of drain slots. The Model 3015 has a 4.75 blade and is ideal for cleaning and filleting smaller pan fish bass and trout. It also makes a useful general camp and bait knife.Even at their value prices these fillets are covered by the CRKT Limited Lifetime Warranty. They re just honest affordable knives. Wash them when you re done oil them occasionally and they ll be around for years. |

28 CRKT Knives at SHOT Show 2009
Is the CRKT M16-10KZ Knife any good for combat? Or just field use?
The manufacturer's website says 'tactical' but I don't really know if a fold-out 3" knife will do any damage.
The length of a blade isn't as important as the skill of the user. You can reach vital points with a 3" blade (neck, temple, inner left thigh, etc). Blade steel (& treatment) is important; the folding knife you refer to is made of AUS-4 steel. The bare minimum should be AUS-8 (440B equivalent), with a good coating of Ti or some other rust inhibiter ain't a bad idea with blades in this price range. FYI, the majority of CRKT M16 folders are made in Taiwan; the quality control is still maintained, so don't let that put you off. Hope that helps!
