Is 'intrusion detection system' the same with firewall?
An intrusion detection system / intrusion prevention system is designed to warn you when anything tries to install on your pc. So if a malicious program tries to install you will get a warning. That's very simplistic but that's the theory. In practice it's a little harder but it can be very effective.
Most firewalls don't have IDS / IPS but some do, e.g. Comodo and OnlineArmor, both excellent and both free.
