Detector Detectors What is the range, in feet, that an outdoor motion detector can detect motion?

1. What is the maximum range of outdoor motion detectors that are attached to lights? 2. Can a motion detector detect motion through glass? So, if the motion detector is on the side of the house and pointed downwards, but the neighbors sliding window is in the way, would it detect the motion through the glass? 3. How sensitive is the detector at it's maximum distance? If the max is say, 35 feet, does the detector loss some of it's ability to detect as it gets to 35 feet?

The farther the distance the less sensitive it will be. It should point down at the ground at like a 45 degree angle.

Why does this smoke detector beep?
I have a system of smoke detectors throughout my house - one detector per room. They seem to be all sync'd with one another. Every 45 seconds to 2 minutes, the detector downstairs will beep one time. I reset them once (or thought I did anyway) but it still beeps. Why is this?
One of them has a dead battery. They are all hooked into the same electrical system as the house, however each individual detector has a separate back-up battery. One of those batteries is dead. When it signals that the battery is dead all of the alarms alert.. The best thing to do is replace all the back-up batteries.
To find the bad battery you have to remove the detector from the house wiring by twist ing it to the right to release it. Then remove the two wire connector that hooks it to the system. If it continues beeping without being hooked into the system then that is the bad battery or the one causing the problem. You can take the battery out to stop the beeping and then don't hook it back into the system, but you will loose the fire protection in that room until it is replaced. The rest of the system will continue to operate as normal, .
Change all of the batteries anyway just to be safe. You need to do this twice a year.
