Detector Esd
I'm looking into buying a radar detector and I can only spend about $30 on one. What do you recommend?
I want to know what brands, features and anything else I should be looking into for my price range. Right now I have my eye on the Cobra ESD-7000. Is this a good unit?
You get what you pay for. If you still want to be paying speeding tickets go for it, otherwise, invest the money on one that works well enough to keep you from getting caught.
The Valentine 1 is the best. It's expensive, but if you avoid many tickets, it's worth the price!

what is the L signal on a radar detector
i have a cobra ESD 9560 (i think lol) and sometimes an L shows up and it makes a weird sound, not like a beep... what is that
The L you are seeing is a warning for police laser (LIDAR) (see sources). Police are using LIDAR more frequently to measure speed. LIDAR is essentially laser, a narrow beam of light that only needs to hit your vehicle for .2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) to measure your speed. Most radar detectors claim that they alert to police laser, but with .2 seconds between the alert and when your speed is measured, you might as well pull over if you are going too fast when your radar detector alerts to laser.
If you are concerned about laser, your only alternative is a laser jammer (also legal to use in most states). A laser jammer detects the incoming laser beam and jams the speed reading on the gun, allowing you time to check your speed and turn off the jammer.
