Can smoke detectors that are the type that are all wired to a central point detect if they are covered?
If I want to smoke a hookah in my dorm room I want to take all of the proper precautions. I plan on having a two fans, one blowing out of the window and one in the hallway sucking in room from the hallway. The hallway in my room is separated from the main hallway by a big wooden door. I plan on stuffing a towel under it. My room mate is cool with it and wants too additionally. I read that some of the high tech smoke detectors in dorm rooms and actually detect if the alarm is covered with a plastic bag. Is this true?
Nothing illegal, but thanks for your answer. I live the United States and planed on smoking a hookah. I have not bought it yet, but those are fun to relax around with friends and a television in a room with ac.

Although, the alarms in the rooms typically are NOT set to put your whole building into alarm if smoke is detected in your room.
A local 'piezo' is what sounds, just to startle you, and it will need to be reset by a tech....
I am not sure what state/country you are from however, so this could be wrong.
Putting the bag over a detector though, also it could go off simply becuase you put it's ambient level 'off'. f t tests sensitivity, etc, just the bag could cause a local alarm.
If you gave a part and model # of the detector, I am sure it would be easier to answer your question.
(I think all the air you have blowing through your room would be enough)
Although, have to throw this in: you really shouldn't be smoking anything illegal.

Who do you blame besides the shooter for the VA TECH murders?
The staff who failed to inform students after the first killings. The police who supposedly didn't act quickly enough. The media who gave us and students info. that they WERE NOT SURE OF that morning (like they had someone in custody when he was still on the loose), remember students were watching the news. The school counslers who didn't take his distrubing english papers seriously enough. People around him who didn't notice he was acting suspcious. People who may have teased him or bullied him to send him over the edge. The govt. for not having stricter gun laws. The president of the univ. Our schools for not having more security and metal detectors at dorms and classroom buildings. Or someone else? I blame all except the police who I think did the best they could.
I totally agree with you. There's no excuse to why the campus wasn't closed down after the first incident. It's a shooting, not a fight or someone got stabbed. Two ppl were dead, point blank. That's more of a reason to close the f'ing school down. Why wasn't it broadcast over the loud speaker. A school that big has got to have a loud speaker warning students. They should've had security at every entrance when students were arriving to the campus to redirect them back home until the first incident was thoroughly investigated.
This is a cover-up. 26,000 students could've been warned in 2 hours. Someone needs to be fired for this s**t. This is unacceptable.
I really feel sorry for the parents and families of the students and faculty members that were lost due to this tragedy.
Please everyone stop making excuses for the Admin, and the Chief officer and the President of the school. Whether or not, the first incident was a domestic dispute, two students were killed and that was enough grounds to shut the campus down completly. Two hours was enough time to get the word across campus and could've of possibly save 32 student lives.
