Whistler radar detector users - are they any good?
I'm interested in buying one - what do y'all think of them???
If you're going to buy a Whistler, buy the best one they make. None of them are rated in the top 5 best radar detectors. The Beltronics STi Driver is the best windshield-mounted radar detector in annual independent testing by Speed Measurement Labs and 1stRadarDetectors.com. The Bel STi Driver provides the best detection over the greatest distances with the least number of false alerts and 100% invisibility to police radar detector detectors. The Valentine One radar detector comes in a close second, with the following 3 radar detectors rounding out the top 5 radar detectors in the world: Escort Passport 9500i, Escort Passport 8500 X50, and Beltronics Pro RX65. Speed Measurement Labs and 1stRadarDetectors.com just finished this year's testing in El Paso, Texas. The Bel STi Driver still provides the best performance, with the Valentine One in second place.
The only protection against police laser (LIDAR) is a laser jammer, which jams the laser gun speed reading while alerting you, allowing you to adjust your speed if necessary, before turning off the jammer. Although most radar detectors will alert to laser pointed at your vehicle, you then have less than 0.2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) to adjust your speed if necessary. Like radar detectors, laser jammers are legal in nearly every state.

what do people know about the whistler brand of radar detector?
I've been shopping for radar detectors, and have gotten some very good feedback from some members. However, all of their suggestions were too expensive for me. I found a whistler brand one that looked good... but I want to know if anyone knows anything about it. I'm looking to keep it under $100.
whistler makes a few low cost models but you know?
the current radar detector is way behind the laser technology that the police are using now.
you have little or no advance warning of laser speed guns.
you will know that your getting a ticket a few seconds before
your clocked for speeding but not soon enough to slow down.
they have a some local police that still use the old radar guns those you can avoid but 99% of them have laser.
if you want the best chance pay the $400 for a valentine one or $300 for and escort but know even they are not foolproof.
best bet on local roads is go with the flow and don't be the car that's passing everyone.
on the interstate buy a cb radio and listen to the truck drivers
