The actions of those officers constituted a misdemeanor, not imprisonment. And where is the outcry for the several incidents where Mexicans in military uniform and members of the drug cartel open fire on the U.S. side at Border Patrol agents? Where is the outcry against the Mexican government who not only ignores these and other occurrences on our southern border, but actually encourages its citizens to cross the border illegally?
I wonder if you could look these two former law enforcement officers in the eye and tell them what you wrote here? This affair is an example of how our judicial system cares more about the rights of criminals rather than victims or law enforcement officers who put themselves in danger to keep law and order. Your comment also demonstrates how the judicial system has come to be the way it is.

The head of a union representing most Border Patrol agents is calling on President Bush and Congress to appoint a special counsel to investigate the case of agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, who began prison sentences yesterday for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler.

The drug smuggler not only got away with his crime, but will be walking away with funds from the present lawsuit against the U.S. government (paid for by taxpayers) because by finding the officers guilty, they have admitted to wrongdoing on behalf of the U.S. government. What's wrong with that picture?
