Ecu Flasher Chip
just bought a used 6 speed2005 mk4 gli and need advice on maintenance tune ups to help keep car in good shape?
anyone know what the intervals are for important bumper to bumper tune ups performed on the vw 1.8t aside from the normal oil change and easy fluid level checks???? right now the cars at 34,000 miles and i have no records of past service aside from what i already got done.(brakepads rotors new front tires oil change) also is it better to go to dealership for scheduled tune ups/maintenance compared to a private vw specialist or is it the other way around?(theres no warranty on the car)......when i finally go get a tune up should i worry(cause i am for some reason) about the ecu being flashed or somehow reset to stock during the tune up if i get a performance chip installed?( i wouldnt want to lose performance during maintenance) or is the ecu left alone during the normal tune ups throughout the life of car??? this is my first volkswagen and second car purchase so i really need all help i can get to make the car last and run well

We were doing the flashes at the dealer and every now and then the cars wouldn't start afterwards. Come to find out the cars had software mods that we didn't know about. And flashing them with stock ecm flashes burned up the computer.
The ECM is left alone during all scheduled maintanence.

how can i disable the governor on a 2008 f-150?
I understand how an ecu works and what it does, and that the gov. is not a removable mechanical device...but what i want to know is if "quick flashing" the ecu (removing the neg. cable and draining power, or removing both cables to clear your mem. banks) will disable the governor. What I am not looking for is a bunch of people telling me to get a reprogrammer or a new chip.
yes there is a rev limiter and a speed limiter on the truck. hust as you said it tops out around 98-99. im not exactly looking for more speed, just more horsepower.
I could interpret your question a couple ways. Software in the PCM has a rev-limiter when the car is in neutral and a speed limiter for on the road. If you press the throttle to the floor, with the car in neutral, the engine RPM's will "bounce" around 4000 RPM, protecting the engine from over-revving and the speed limiter is designed to keep you from exceeding a programmed speed limit using the input from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). What is the programmed limit? Somewhere around 100MPH?
There is no need to try to re-write the software to eliminate the rev-limiter, but I assume you want to drive the truck faster, so a software flash with the desired parameters is in order. Simply disconnecting the battery won't "quick flash" anything.
It's not the answer you want, but only a re-write of the performance profile will achieve what you are wanting to do. Ford can flash your PCM, but they will only use the software Ford provides.
