Flasher Remap
Advice on upgrading 1999 Volvo s80 2.9?
ok so basically the car just fell into my lap. i have read on multiple forums that this is the slowest volvo ever produced... well anyway my previous car broke down and was extremely fast (honda del sol with about 6k worth of parts when i bought it). Anyway to the point i would still like to have a car thats fun to drive. Unfortunately the car has 170k miles on it. The upgrades themselves are no problem what so ever for me to intstall. I plan on adding a cold air intake (will have to make myself), remap the ecu using ipd's flash loader, possibly add high flow exhaust, and other parts that won't effect the engine. Anyway my real question is how will an engine with this high mileage handle performance upgrades of this nature?
I would just get rid of that car and buy something a little bit more powerful to start off with, a v6 3.1+ or a v8, something light as well, then put some nice upgrades on that.

Do all modern flash RAM devices use wear leveling?
Because there is a finite number of read/write cycles (typically 10,000 - 100,000) in which flash RAM will function, it's possible to exceed the life cycle of a flash RAM device fairly quickly if writes are always done to the same physical blocks of memory. To avoid the problem, manufacturers of flash RAM devices can incorporate "wear leveling" that remaps the blocks so that writes occur evenly throughout the physical locations of the flash device.
Do all modern flash RAM devices use this wear leveling technology?
Interesting idea. I don't know if that's how they do it, but I can see that it would be beneficial.
