Fuel Injection Signal

How pushing the acceleration pedal in a car is converted to actual power and rpm“s in a car engine?
In the old days the accelerator pedal moved a valve to allow more or less gas into the engine. But now, with all those car computers and fuel injection, is the accelerator pedal an input sensor into the computer? can this sensor be substituted with a 4-20mA signal or something like that??
In "the old days" when the accelerator was pressed, it did indeed open or close a valve, but that valve controlled air flow. The resultant air flow drew with it fuel regulated by the carburetor and its passages, depending on the venturi principle.
On the electronic controlled fuel injected engines, the accelerator still regulates the air flow into the engine, but there are sensors to tell the computer what that position of the accelerator is, the engine RPM and the percentage of load. The computer uses that information to determine and control the fuel rate along with ignition timing advance and a host of other variables.
In "the old days" when there was a failure of some sort, there were "creative" workarounds to allow limited use of the engine in an emergency. Those mechanical options are no longer available, but then the failure rate isn't what it used to be in "the good old days" either.

| | Fuel Injection $81.25 Fuel injection is a system for mixing fuel with air in an internal combustion engine. It has become the primary fuel delivery system used in gasoline automotive engines, having almost completely replaced carburetors in the late 1980s. A fuel injection system is designed and calibrated specifically for the type(s) of fuel it will handle. Most fuel injection systems are for gasoline or diesel applications. With the advent of electronic fuel injection (EFI), the diesel and gasoline hardware has become similar. EFIs programmable firmware has permitted common hardware to be used with different fuels. Carburetors were the predominant method used to meter fuel on gasoline engines before the widespread use of fuel injection. A variety of injection systems have existed since the earliest usage of the internal combustion engine. The primary difference between carburetors and fuel injection is that fuel injection atomizes the fuel by forcibly pumping it through a small nozzle under high pressure, while a carburetor relies on low pressure created by intake air rushing through it to add the fuel to the airstream. Testing the fuel injection of a car
Any experience with gas in oil? SPICA fuel injection. 79 Alfa Romeo Spider.?
My 16 year old grandson recently bought a '79 Spider with SPICA fuel injection. We changed the oil the day we took it off the trailer. The car seemed to be running rich but had good oil pressure. We put about 300 miles on it and changed the oil again. After about 50 miles I noticed less oil pressure. At about 75 miles the car shut off at a stop signal. I checked the oil and found it contained gas. I drove it about 2 miles to a garage. The oil in the crankcase contained so much gas it was flammable. The mechanic says it cannot be the fuel pump because it delivers gas at too low a pressure to cause the problem. There is no indication that the head is cracked and no oil leaks. Are there any repair manuals that might address how gas would get into the oil? Any suggestions?
I dont know that model at all but in general all systems only have a few ways to get fuel into the oil. First place would be if there is a mechanical fuel pump. A mechanical pump has some sort of connection to the internals of the engine so if there is an internal problem with the pump it could end up pumping fuel into the engine, it could also still be pumping enough to the rest of the system to keep running so you would not think to look there. Second place would be if there is some sort of fuel pressure regulator. Many fuel pressure regulators use manifold vacuum as a reference to set the pressure. If there is an internal problem with the regulator it could then let fuel get sucked direct into the intake. Same as the fuel pump it could still be delivering enough fuel to the rest of the system. Last place is from the injectors. The injectors could be leaking all the time or something could be wrong with the system and they are just being told to deliver too much fuel.
Dont drive it till you get it figured out. The fuel washes the oil off the internals so its like running with no oil. There was enough of those systems around it should not be too hard to find someone that knows them and how to work on them.
